BARCELONA

Fashion Week

Barcelona, where do we start?

I’m sat on the hardest airport seat known to man, contemplating the giant bag of peanut M&Ms I’ve just spotted and reflecting on the most incredible 4 days.

Unbelievably for me, this trip hasn’t consisted of that much alcohol and has involved some 9 hour sleeps (which is unheard of for me) - blackout blinds you absolute dream!

Truth be told, the Lulu Life has been pretty much none stop since we reopened after Christmas. There’s been many mornings I’ve woke at 4am with my mind ripping through the days “to do” list before I’ve even opened my eyes and so many midnight finishes that I boarded my outbound flight feeling pretty exhausted.

Anyone who has been to Barcelona will know just how beautiful it is, it is safe to say we fell in love.

I mean, what's not to love.. The beautifully ornate streets of the old town, saturated with fabulous little boutiques and eateries. -

Shopping and eating, erm... HELLO!

Now onto the most exciting subject, buying!

Buying for Lulu’s is no small task!

Endless spreadsheets, trend predictions, rail space analysis, the list goes on.

Every gown we buy is a calculated gamble and I won’t lie,

even after 13 years, I still get a little nervous if I allow myself think about things too closely.

Due to the scale of our buying, we split our trips up and dedicated different designers for every trade show,

and this was one BIG trade show!

Two huge halls bursting with the most incredible designers and gowns, how do we choose you say?

Our collection has to be perfect without stating the obvious.

Making sure we’re not duplicating styles is imperative and my biggest pet hate is rails of gowns that all look and feel the same.

My biggest buying tool is my gut instinct. Jess and I have very eclectic taste so we always have a huge mix of fabrics,

shapes and styles in our collection.

Barcelona was all about our designers, Jesus Peiro, Justin Alexander and Lillian West.

I could write forever about how amazing the Jesus show is but I guess you really want to see the gowns!

We’ve chosen something slightly different from Jesus.

Our mid-season collection (now in store) was made up of their signature shapes and fabrics,

so I thought I’d use the main season gowns to exercise our creativity!

So, separates were the order of the day.

A full makado skirt, a soft crepe skirt and 3 beautiful tops are currently in production for us!

Saturday night, on the third night, we were very kindly invited to a surprise evening with the lovely team at Jesus Peiro for all of their international stockists. A beautiful evening of fine dining and fabulous people!

We shared a table with the most amazing ladies from around the world who had their own bridal boutiques in Hong Kong, Finland, Austria and Germany.

And of course our ever so wonderful rep and friend Marion!

We also went for two sparkly gowns with the most incredible, intricate details. One even has a matching cape - the dream!

A view and a memory we will never forget - just stunning!

I feel very lucky that we have such a great relationship with our designers and we can share these amazing moments with them!

Lillian West is perfect for our Boho brides. Think bell sleeves, bat wing sleeves,

soft fabrics and romantic laces! They were the order of the day.

We fell in love with this year’s collection as soon as we saw it, the only struggle was choosing which ones!

I can safely say we picked some amazing gowns  - HEART EYES!

And last but certainly not least, for Justin Alexander we chose a stunning mix of textures within his selection of gowns. From the classic cuts of clean satin to intricately beaded appliqués and pearl details.

Barcelona marks the last Bridal Fashion week of the year for me (London and Amsterdam were wonderful too!),

we have travelled more than ever this year, searching for the best of the best gowns for our beautiful brides.
